The Russian Blue Portrait

 

The Russian Blue is harmonious, elegant, distinguished.

Her body is long, slim, average sized (some males are big sized). Sexual dimorphism is present, the male being longer and more muscled than the female, which is rather more delicate. The cat has an athletic aspect, given by the fine bones, long limbs and firm muscles.

The head is not too big, it has the shape of a triangle with cut corners, the skull is long and flat, the profile is straight, with strong chin, full cheeks, prominent in the moustache area, well configured moustaches. The nose is straight, forming a concav to extended angle with the long and straight forehead. This cat’s head has seven perfect flat areas.
The neck is long and gracious. The ears are big, wide at the base and quite distanced (on a wide head), highly positioned, giving the cat an aristocratic look. They are covered by short, thin hairs, which make them seem transparent.
The corners of the mouth are slightly lifted, giving its face a misterious smile, specific for the breed.

The eyes are average-sized, migdal-shaped, distanced, of a vivid green colour. They are remarcably expressive. It has been said that this green “comes from the inside”… Some kittens have green eyes even from the age of 3-4 months, some others get the green gradually, later on.
The limbs are long, with thin bones, with small, oval paws. The nose and the pads are blue. The tail is long, with rounded tip.

The coat is the marvelous jewel of the “blue wonder”. It has short hairs, and it is smooth, soft, silky and fluffy. The fuzz of the coat is waterproof at the roots, the coat is double, the cover hairs are silvery at the tips (silky gloss). The color is uniform blue. Some people prefer an average intensity blue, some others a lighter blue.
The kitten’s coat has “the ghost marks”, namely some tiger, diffuse marks, which gradually dissapear with the kittens growth and development.

The fact that the coat is double, and the silky gloss (the spark at the hair tips) are specific for the Russian Blue, making it different amongst the other blue breeds and varieties. The fascinating gloss and the coat reflexes are emphasized especially in natural light.

Generally, the coat maintenance consists of brushing.
