Without considering myself as the absolute truth owner, I can tell you that: they are very intelligent cats, sometimes of an amazing discretion, sometimes very insistent. The suggestively express their wishes, thus they can be easily understood. They attentively watch you, and they even have an inquiring tone when they don’t understand something. Generally, they have a pleasant voice quality, some of them sound like a melody when they call you. Their eyes make their beautiful face even more expressive. They feel that you love them and they fully reward you for this; they follow you everywhere, like a shadow (they are also called “the Blue Shadow”). The human friend is the center of their universe. They are “hurt” if not granted attention. They have habits, and they sleep when they are lonely, in order to make their waiting for you easier.
Generally speaking, they eat moderately, but there are also gurmand ones among them. They are playful, inventive, good and fun acrobates, they have the agility of panthers, they simulate hunt, they play passionately, and in their movements they always follow an aim (generally, they don’t run chaotically). It is very interesting that the adults teach their calfs very early, the “mortal bite”. They would surely hunt, but except an unhappy fly or some moth, they don’t have what else to go for. I have tom cats which come from the balcony with birds feathers around their mouth. They shake, they quiver when they see a bird approaching…
They love to see you following their example and respecting yourself (when you sit and watch TV, or you indulge yourself with something), or when they see you reading, or working… When you are upset or worried, they sit ground and study you with compassion. Their eyes speak, they understand you from your looks. They love romantic music played in sourdine. When they see you happy, they enjoy it, but they keep a certain reserve: they watch you to see if there is anything fishy there. When they realize that you are really in a good mood, they purr and the breed specific smile gets more emphasys. If socialized correctly, they are not afraid of guests (of course, if the guests behave normally from the cat’s standpoint).
The mother cat is extraordinary. They nurse the calfs until very late age. The help each others when they have babies. They are glad thay you help them and the little ones, at birth. The whole cat family has a role in growing up and educating the calfs. The males are very loving and care-taking with the young babies. They recognize their kittens after birth and they are very tender with the young mommy (of course, under careful surveillance, when they are allowed to get in touch). Some of them are shy, some others are daring.
The Russian Blue has a balanced behaviour. I consider that it is a pleasure and a priviledge to have around you a Russian Blue cat. I tried to look closer into her behaviour. She is, in fact, a fascinating whole… At expositions, some of them resignedly accept the situation, some others show you that they don’t like it. It is better not to force them, if they get particulary stressed. The Russian Blue is a very independent cat (it has habits, it knows what it wants), thus the exposition is not the best place in the world for her to be. But this is sometimes a must. It is an aspect of the breeder’s work. Your work, without feedback, can raise questions.
